Sandra Nystø Ráhka

Sandra Nystø Ráhka is a PhD candidate at Nord University, Faculty of Education and Arts. Her PhD research investigates the development of Sámi language education focussing on how the conditions for Sámi language education have changed throughout the years since it was first introduced in the curriculum in 1974. erHer other research interests include Indigenous education, bilingualism, language and power, language revitalization and language didactics. Sandra was first recruited to Nord University in 2016 to teach in the university’s first beginner course in Lule Sámi and her teaching is tied to the university’s Lule Sámi education programs. Sandra grew up on the Norwegian side of Sámeednam and was among the first generation to receive Lule Sámi-medium education throughout pre-school, primary and lower secondary school.
