Academics & artists unite in Port Moresby to launch INTRACOMP

On April 29th, 2025, academics, artists and cultural leaders from across Papua New Guinea and around the world came together in Port Moresby to launch the Horizon Europe-funded INTRACOMP project. Hosted by the Institute of Papua New Guinea Studies (IPNGS), the event marked the beginning of this three-year intercultural research initiative focused on creative collaboration and climate justice.

INTRACOMP brings together 13 partners across Europe, the Pacific, and beyond to mobilise the power of cultural expression in the fight against climate change. The PNG launch included dance, poetry, and calls for a unified front between artists, researchers, and policymakers.

“The role of artists and cultural institutions in shaping public understanding and engagement with climate change is vital.”
— Dr Naomi Faik-Simet, IPNGS Acting Director & Principal Investigator

The initiative will support grassroots creative projects, build intercultural competence, and amplify indigenous knowledge to drive sustainable development.
