Music, Culture & Connection at University of Jyväskylä

On 15 May at the University of Jyväskylä, students from JYU and the University of Canberra (Australia) came together for a vibrant workshop led by a PhD researcher, musician, and Santour player Farshad Sanati. The session invited participants to explore Persian musical traditions and reflect on how music can foster connection across cultures. From learning about the roots of Iranian music to hands-on Santour playing and collective singing, the event was filled with laughter, rhythm, and meaningful exchanges.

Experiences like this remind us how artistic expression can open space for dialogue, empathy, and shared joy. We’re grateful to everyone who joined and look forward to more moments of cultural learning and connection ahead!

The event was organized as a part of the INTRACOMP project, which focuses on developing transcultural competences through creative collaboration: check out the project page to learn more!
