Our main mission is to work with marginalized communities of citizens in an unconventional creative form using the means of theatre, performing arts, dance or singing. Divadlo bez domova – Theatre With No Home (herein after referred to as DBD) provides a platform for presenting social topics that are being overlooked in the commercial artistic sphere. We combine the artistic with the social in order to help tear down stereotypes that marginalized communities face in the society.
DBD was informally founded in 2005 in the course of work on theatrical projects with people without a home and it became registered with the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic on 12.5.2006. Members of the organization are people, who are in the long run engaged in the social, educational and artistic practice.
We are based in Bratislava, Slovakia – in the Palace Pistori. Devastated space we were able to reconstruct and turn into a theatre where can work people who usually have no voice – especially homeless people, physically handicapped people, people with mental disorder, ex-prisoners and other vulnerable people. We organize national and international workshops for students, teachers, other professionals and/or large public. We also organize the International festival of homeless theatres ERROR since 2006.
Our community of actors and actresses is made up of people without home, physically disabled, people from socially underprivileged communities, people with psychiatric diagnoses, social workers, theatre artists and anyone who is interested in our theatre. Our actors and actresses receive financial compensation for performing in our theatre plays.
