Dr Nasser Giacaman

Nasser Giacaman is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Software Engineering at the University of Auckland. His work focuses on developing digital educational tools and applying software engineering principles to support learning. His research explores using technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual/augmented reality and web-based solutions to enhance education.

He has been involved in creating interactive educational applications, including automated assessment tools, learning analytics, and gamified learning environments. His work examines how technology can be used to improve student engagement and understanding, particularly in computing and software engineering education. 

Nasser has received several teaching awards for his efforts to create engaging and effective learning experiences. He takes a student-centred approach, incorporating active learning and real-world applications into his teaching. Beyond his academic role, he collaborates with industry partners and educators to explore ways of improving digital learning tools; he is the AI Leader for ByteEd, an EdTech company dedicated to developing computational thinking solutions for children. Through his research and teaching, he aims to contribute to developing more effective approaches to technology-enhanced education.
