From the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Jay is a professor of social work and co-founder of the Centre for Asia Pacific Refugee Studies at the University of Auckland. He is a former Rutherford Discovery Fellow and has worked in forced migration settings as a practitioner and researcher, publishing more than 90 peer reviewed papers. As a teacher, he has received awards at the faculty, university, and national levels. What links this work together are his commitments to anti-oppressive practice, the use of innovative methodologies, and capacity building to work towards positive settlement futures.
