Terhi Nokkala (PhD) works as a Research professor at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research (FIER), University of Jyväskylä. Her research focuses on higher education as a societal phenomenon; especially on higher education policy and organisations, as well as academic work and collaboration; and questions of ecological and social sustainability in education. Methodologically, the emphasis in Nokkala’s research is on discourse analysis and international comparative studies. She is especially interested in the methodological and conceptual development of qualitative comparative research on higher education. Prior to joining JYU in 2010, she worked at the Universities of Tampere and Surrey and as a visiting researcher at the University of Twente, University of Bristol and the Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna. Nokkala is one of the coordinating editors of Higher Education.
